The other night I ran accross the website for the Women's Nike Marathon in San Francisco, and let me tell you...I can't stop thinking about it. It is a marathon that benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, not only does it benefit a great cause, but there are a lot of other perks. Live music along the course, pace leaders, free massages, manicures & pedicures (along the way), chocolate stops (along the way), gait analysis, pace bracelets, Free Luna Bars, Free Gatorade, fitness consultations, training & nutrition seminars, free Nike running apparel...and last but definately not least - A FREE TIFFANY'S NECKLACE FOR ALL OF THE FINISHERS! Needless to say, I have started training. The race is in October and this year's is already full, so I am planning on running it in October 2008.
The course looks awesome too! It kicks off in Downtown SF at Union Square and heads through the financial district past the TransAmerica building, along the SF Bay past Fisherman's Wharf, Aquatic Park, Ghirardelli Square, Fort Mason and Marina Green while exposing breathtaking views of Alcatraz and The Golden Gate Bridge. The course then travels through the Presidio and Sea Cliff district, out to the Great Highway, through Golden Gate Park and south along Lake Merced, finishing just north of the Great Highway along the Pacific Ocean. They also promise that there are no "cable car hills" on the course either.
Oliver and I ran 5 miles last night and as we ran back to our destination point I made him pretend that I was just finishing a marathon. He cheered me on as I ran across 11th Ave and B St. with my arms in the air and I started jumping up and down - for real, this happened. I saw an old man laughing at us from his kitchen window. Oliver quickly noted that I probably would not be jumping and leaping accross the finish line, it would be more of a limp and a crawl. I don't care though, I am going to do it and I need some other girls to join me...Marci? Holly? Candice? Sherry? Mom?...Anyone? Please!
Oh, and there is a half marathon that you can opt for instead. If you would like more information, go here.

How funny I am thinking about WALKING a 1/2 Marathon in KS. My friend set a goal to do it and I said I would join her! I just walked 10 miles today.
Is there a time limit? 1/2 hour for pedicure 1/2 hour for chocolate break sounds like my kind of race... Hmmm
I will seriously consider it. Watching the NYC inspired me...it's been on the back of my mind ever since. We'll talk.
Hey Carly this is Marci's cousin Lisa--Marci told me to check out the marathon you are interested in and it looks awesome!!!!! I would so do it just for all the perks! I just did a sprint triathlon- you can check out the pics through Marcis blog---if you want to :)
Lisa, Marci...Let's do it!
My friend Jenny is running this half marathon this year - she mentioned the Tiffany necklace, but not all that other stuff. It sounds rad! I'll see how the Moab Other Half works out for me this October, and maybe the Nike Half will end up in plans for 2008.
Count me in and let's start training now or I'll never achieve it. I've always wanted to run a marathon but have never had the motivation until now. I'll complain a lot too but keep pushing me :) -Holly
