Riobamba, Ecuador

Big news. The Hinckley Institute of Politics is sending Oliver and me (on scholarship) to Riobamba, Ecuador for 4 months. We will be working as interns for Ascend Alliance; Oliver will be teaching Business classes and I will be teaching English classes. We leave the 3rd week of January and we will return in the middle of May. I don't know too much right now, but I do know that we will not have hot water where we are staying, the town is at 12000 ft., and it is a climbing mecca. Some implications of this adventure: Big Mike will be pacing every night for the next 4 months, I have one month to learn Spanish, we will miss Miles, and two words: Galapagos Islands. We are so excited and feel so blessed.

That is so exciting! I am so happy for you and your adventure ahead.

The beauty of my graduate program is that our professors, for some reason, have our final papers due the last day of class rather than during finals week. It's brilliant.

Congratulations to you both! Carly. Are you aware that they filmed a large part of Jurrasik Park on the Galapagos Islands? Just a thought...slash word of caution. Think about it. Viva Ecuador.

Wow! I have a million questions, but mostly how in the world did you get such an opportunity like that? What a neat thing to do and good for you guys! I hope you have so much fun, you will remember that forever and be able to tell your kids all about it. Take lots of pictures, we all will be expecting updates!

This is going to be hard to let you two go, but this is the time for an adventure. Will you have the internet? How do we know if you are alive? I am proud of you for all your service.

Carly, my friend at work is going to Riobamba next week! She has family there. She is going with the same program you are but she'll only be there for 2 weeks for humanitarian work. She's bringing back notes and suggestions so I'll pass them on to you when she gets back on the
31st :) She was told it's going to be freezing there and to pack really warm clothes!
