Family Matters

We had a bit of jilt this summer. After an emergency appendectomy, Big Mike found out he had Cancer of the Appendix (it is super rare and there is a scientific name for it, but I don't know it at the moment). We were all caught off guard a bit by the whole thing, but I have had a good and positive feeling throughout the whole process. Although, I don't know if my parents had the same experience. On July 7th after fasting, praying, a gallon of Milk of Magnesia, and an important golfing trip to Laguna Beach (priorities, right?), my dad went into surgery. They removed 6 inches of his colon, 15 lymphnodes and all of the vascular stuff that is connected to it. The surgery wasn't without complications, but he did really well. Dad spent 3 days in the hospital, and then sweet talked (or nagged until they gave in) the doctors into letting him go home early.
.
He has been doing well since, and all of his children are doting on him. I have been over there baking bran muffins, making vegetable soup, and trying to convince him that putting an inch of butter on everything is not a good idea - no progress yet.
.
We found out yesterday that he is cancer free! The surgery worked and he will not need Chemo. He has six weeks of recovery, but he looks good and all is well.
