Top of Utah Marathon.

We did it! Oliver, Meg, Bass, Lisa and I ran the Top of Utah Marathon. Oliver stayed with me the whole time...the goal was to get me to the finish line. Meg and Bass ran with us til mile 15 we got split up at the bathrooms. Lisa rocked it with her girlfriends and finished about 30 mins before us.

After our training runs I knew that I needed some support runners. Ty ran with me from mile 17 to 20, Brad from mile 20 to 23, and Beth from 23 to the finish line. I could not have done it without them or Oliver.

Here is the play-by-play:

Friday Night:
Carbo-loading at Gabor Brothers with Meg & Bass (& Ellie)
Drove up to Logan
Picked up our racing bibs
Watched "Hide Yo Kids, Hide Yo Wife" 20M times with Micah and Lisa.

Saturday:
Woke up at 4:00am
Caught the shuttle at 4:15am
Sat on bus listening to all the runners brag about themselves
Rode up past Hardware Ranch
Standing in the dark cold for 1 hour
Wondering why in the Hell I am doing this?
Caffeine pills, Gu, 5 Hour Energy

7:00 am - Race Begins
Mile 1 - We made a bathroom stop...really.
Mile 4 - feeling good
Mile 6 - shooting pains in my knee
Mile 7 - medic wraps my knees; Ibuprofen
Mile 9 - iPod in my ears trying to pretend my knees don't hurt
Mile 13 - we are only half way...hilarious
Mile 14 - run out of the canyon, now we just have to run to Logan
Mile 16 - more Ibuprofen, counting down the steps til I see Ty
Mile 17 - TY!!! ditch iPod
Mile 17.5 - Ty tells me I'm not allowed to speak because I need to conserve energy
Mile 18 - lady on the side of the road offers me tortilla chips; I thought about it for a second
Mile 19 - wiping vaseline EVERYWHERE, Ibuprofen
Mile 19.5 - Oliver thinks this is the greatest thing ever and isn't phased by any of it
Mile 20 - BRAD!!! no aide station at mile 20?
Mile 20 to 23 - I really start slowing down
Mile 23 - MOM!!! everything on my body hurts.
Mile 24 - walk 5 minutes, run 15, walk 5 minutes, run 15
Mile 25 - Beth starts reciting the temple blessings and the Word of Wisdom to me "you will run and not be weary" ... hilarious.
Mile 26.2 - finished slow but strong

26.2 Miles - 5 hours and 40 minutes. After crossing the finish line Oliver said, "I could have done 6 more." ...Oh, and did I mention that Oliver video taped the entire thing? He seriously carried a flip camera for 26.2 miles. I would post it except it would make you sick to watch...too bumpy.

If "Hide Yo Kids, Hide Yo Wife" doesn't get you amped up to run 26 miles, I don't know what will.

I still think about this every day. I can't believe it. How can you just be running for 5 hours?
